Tom has been a Founder, CEO, COO, CTO, and is a Director or Mentor of several start-up and early stage companies and had a number of successful exists. He has obtained over $50 million in funding from VCs and Public Markets in North America and Europe for technology companies resulting in successful new ventures.
Tom has developed technologies for the Canadian Space Agency, NASA, and the Institute of Ocean Science, military in several countries and lead teams developing and manufacturing Telecordia compliant telecom products.
He also has taken surgical devices from conception to manufacture personally dealing with the FDA 510k pathways. His experience with stereo real time imaging has been applied to VR projects as well as other medical devices and was an invited presenter for the US Navy in Hawaii and San Diego for teleoperated military systems. He has published multiple papers and co-authored several stereo endoscopy chapters in surgical text books.
He is a mentor and judge in the BC New Ventures Competition with a good track record of placing companies in the top ten for financial awards.
Tom is a Registered Professional Engineer and holds degrees in Electrical Engineering and MSc. in Technology Management. He also teaches as a sessional instructor several management, entrepreneur and innovation courses in Technology Management at the BC Institute of Technology.
