We provide records management support and systems design for innovative companies. It’s no secret that Governments are getting more difficult to deal with. Expectations for documentation are becoming more stringent. As the tax department rationalizes and centralizes their operations, their determinations are becoming increasingly arbitrary and assessment delays are increasing.
In effect their “increased efficiency” is actually simply the result of decreased service levels.
For innovative companies claiming Canada’s scientific research & experimental development (“SR&ED”) tax incentives, this can mean longer delays and reduced benefits. In fact the Liberal Government is estimating that SR&ED tax expenditures will decrease by 17.9% in 2017. This isn’t the result of decreased levels of activity. Instead they appear to be relying on increased audit activity and more onerous documentation requirements.
